The role will focus on environmental compliance and establishing good environmental practice, including maintaining relevant environmental permits and ensuring effective implementation of the Site Environmental Management Plan by leading on initiatives, active  monitoring, reporting, advising and continuous improvement.   For Environmental related matters there will be a requirement to work with the HVDC global Environmental Specialist, whilst being part of the site organisation structure

This role would be ideal for a candidate who has at least 5 years environmental management / project experience and is looking for an exciting new challenge to make a real difference to lead on the environmental management of the site and to help reduce the environmental footprint of a significant infrastructure project. 

 
Main Accountabilities - Responsibilities, Tasks & Interactions:
  • Support the development of Hitachi Energy HVDC Environmental policies & procedures. consistent with Legislation, Hitachi Energy requirements and Construction Industry best practice.
  • Support the site in environmental compliance matters related to relevant statutory environmental permits and conditions.
  • Conduct regular site inspections / audits to ensure ongoing permit, consent and organizational requirements are being maintained, making recommendations for improvement as required.
  • Support the development of suitable environmental objectives / KPIs in support of the project and business needs.
  • Produce monthly environmental reports against predetermined requirements.
  • Work proactively with site personnel support environmental deliverables.
  • Ensure clear and effective communication with all stakeholders in order to meet agreed environmental objectives.
  • Maintain and improve the Environmental Management Plan, aspects and impacts register and support the development of other environmental documents, as necessary.
  • Maintain effective communication with environmental specialist suppliers supporting our projects.
  • Lead on Waste Duty of Care compliance including responsibility for managing the Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP), associated data monitoring and reporting.
  • Be available to take on global assignments for shorter and longer periods based on project & Site demands
Requirements - Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Essential
  • Fluent in English (Verbal and Written)
  • 5 years experience in environmental management / leading on environmental projects
  • Previous experience ensuring compliance with Environmental legislation and permits.
  • Qualified to graduate level in Environmental Management
  • Strong organizational & communication skills
  • Conversant with relevant ISO standards
  • Computer literate & proficient IT skills
  • Driven & self-motivated
  • Enjoy the challenge of working within and across teams to lead change/improvement within the business
  • Full Clean Driving License
 
Desirable
  • Member of a environment related professional body
  • Post graduate qualification related to environmental management
  • An Environmental Clerk of Works (ECoW)
  • Ground environmental survey experience
  • Experience in preparing environmental documentation
