Senior Manufacturing Manager

Phoenix Scientific Industries Ltd (PSI) is entering a phase of rapid expansion into several new areas relating to the technology of metal powders used in Additive Manufacturing (AM). 

The role at PSI is to ensure the on-time delivery of our projects which range in value from £500k to £5M, mainly for export, working with sales, design and purchasing functions.

Also to take a senior position in the operation of our sister company Metal Powder and Process Ltd (MPP), the powder manufacturing operation of the PSI Group.

PSI supply specialist equipment designed and manufactured in-house for the advanced materials industry, our technology is sold throughout the world and offers customers a research or production scale machine to process feedstock material into a refined, alloyed, highly valuable metal powder product.

This role will take responsibility of the full project execution from the design output phase, providing effective leadership and co-ordination of the purchasing, manufacturing, and installation teams. You will use project planning skills and tools to ensure consistent planning, forecasting, budget control, risk management and demonstrate cost savings throughout. The position offers the successful candidate the opportunity for progression to a directorial position as the business achieves its projected plans.

Job Specification & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.
  • Reporting to the board of directors, you will bring significant experience in building large scale capital equipment.
  • Experience in locating and developing critical suppliers of high value commercial and fabricated equipment and sub-assemblies.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills to facilitate close working relationships with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and PSI personnel.
  • Demonstrable ability to work consistently under times of pressure and provide positive leadership to the teams.
  • Ensuring health and safety is always managed across all departments.
  • Hosting of regular production meetings with a focus on ownership and achievement of agreed tasks.
  • Identifying skills opportunities and gaps, recruiting, and maintaining the strength of the teams, holding scheduled performance reviews and motivating staff to achieve objectives and personal development goals.
  • Producing and maintaining SOPs for manufacturing streams.
  • A self-motivated personality, with the drive to achieve excellence in all activities undertaken.
  • The role may also include other tasks and duties that may be required as directed by the board.

The role is based at PSI’s Hailsham site but may involve occasional UK and overseas visits in support of our worldwide customer base. Due to the nature of the work this role cannot be fulfilled by working on a remote basis.

Essentials:
Full UK Driving Licence and ability to travel globally as required

Working Hours:
37.5 hour working week

Holiday entitlement:
Year 1 = 22 days / Year 2 onwards = 25 days
(Plus, Bank holidays)
