Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Dudley, Birmingham

Salary: Circa £35k - £40k plus shift and overtime  

Rates of pay

Weekly Paid

Midweek Basic Rate - £15.93ph

Overtime during the week @ Rate 2 (£19.11ph)

Saturday overtime @ Rate 4 (£23.89ph)

Sunday and Bank holidays @ Rate 3 (£31.86ph)

Basic hours equates to circa £36k + overtime.

Current working patterns (Based on 40 hours).

  • Week1 - 6am-2pm Mon-Fri @ Rate 1
  • Week 2- 8pm-6am Mon-Thurs @ Rate 2 + £1 /p/h antisocial allowance.
  • Week 3 - 1pm-9pm Mon-Thurs, and 10am-6pm Fri @ Rate 1          

Hours & Shift Pattern subject to change.  As we are a 24 hour production site, maintenance cover is required at all times.  Overtime will be required to cover holiday’s and/or absence, so flexibility on shift hours is essential to suit the business demand and changes to business needs.

A local manufacturing company are now looking for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join their team.

Electrical Maintenance Engineer -  The role

You will be part of a 2-man team working a 3-shift rota. On your team will be a Mechanical fitter, and yourself the Electrician. You will be tasked to carry out preventative maintenance tasks as well as be reactive with regards to plant breakdowns and repairs.

You will also be required to carry out Installation work on machinery and within the factory and any maintenance work on bay lighting and other electrical services.

All actions need to be carried out in a safe and professional manor, reporting to supervisors, and filling out daily shift reports and other necessary paperwork.

Electrical Maintenance Engineer - General Scope of work

  • Installation work on both factory and process machinery.
  • Fault find on 415v, 240v, 110v and 24vac and dc systems.
  • Follow CCT diagrams to aid fault finding.
  • PLC, establish necessary input/output (no program facility)
  • Fault find on OHC’s, Remote handsets, contactor function, fuses.
  • DC drives/inverters basic knowledge would be an advantage.
  • Maintain high bay lighting replacement, repair, and LED upgrade.
  • Test emergency lighting and evacuation alarm system.
  • Involved in CCT design and control panel building.

Electrical Maintenance Engineer - Experience/Qualifications Required

The ideal candidate MUST come from the manufacturing industry as a Maintenance Engineer.  You will also have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • You will have a C&G, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering (or apprenticeship trained)
  • 17th or 18th Edition IEE Regs preferred, but not essential. 
  • NVQ level 3 or City and Guilds in Mechanical Maintenance or any other relevant qualification would be beneficial.
  • Ideally have some PLC experience although not essential

Trade Tests

  • Check fuses.
  • Test continuity hydraulic/pneumatic coil
  • Insulation resistance test 3 phase motor to earth
  • Test motor windings continuity
  • Identify equipment.
  • Live test
  • Look at Drawings.
