Job Title:         Test Equipment Hardware Engineer

Salary:             up to £53,500 per annum dependent upon experience

Location:         Portsmouth

We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Test Equipment Hardware Engineer. The role will be based in Portsmouth and will require the post holder to be on site 5 days per week (no hybrid working is available). Flexible working hours are available- individual circumstances will be discussed.

They work at the cutting edge of technology, creating more than 100 new inventions every year for customers in over 100 countries.

You will be joining the Torpedo Test Equipment Team, consisting of 15 team members, providing comprehensive and effective Engineering support service for existing Spearfish and Sting Ray test equipment utilised in the UK at various MoD sites. This role will provide engineering support delivering Test Equipment upgrades to the existing fleet of Test Equipment. The Torpedo Test Equipment Team is part of the wider Torpedo In-Service Support Group.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To act as Test Equipment Hardware Engineer, providing comprehensive and effective Engineering support service for Underwater Weapon test equipment
  • To support Lead Test Equipment Engineer, in day to day activities to ensure Test Equipment availability
  • Diagnosing, surveying and maintaining a wide range of Special to Type and COTS Test Equipment
  • Influence and deliver design obsolescence tasks, including implementation of new hardware at the Portsmouth site ensuring that its design aims and requirements are met
  • Compiles and approves designs, changes, tasks and concessions

About You:

  • Knowledge and experience with typical Automatic Test Equipment hardware including COTS instrumentation
  • Understand and carry out necessary activity to maintain the design standard of in-service Test Equipment
  • Have experience of how to perform the routine delivery of Test Equipment in use at local and customer sites
  • Potential to act as Design Authority for specified existing and new items of Test Equipment
  • Able to conduct electrical investigations into Test equipment issues

You must be eligible to apply for SC clearance and, therefore, must hold a British passport and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years
