Job Description - Senior Quality Engineer

Manage Quality Engineering activity in the valve seats value stream

  • Track and monitor daily quarantine activity, implement and drive through actions resulting from this
  • Ownership of productivity projects related to quality improvement (primarily scrap reduction, external cost reduction)
  • Ownership of quality firewall / inspection validation processes
  • Responsible for quality elements of new business / launch in the value stream, including APQP and PPAP activity
  • Leads continuous improvement teams to improve quality
  • Deliver quality process and awareness training
  • Represent quality in PFMEA activity
  • Input to capital expenditure process, including the commissioning of new plant and equipment

Manage customer complaint activity with global OEM customers

  • Manage customer containment activities at customer locations, to minimise financial and reputational damage to the business.
  • Lead problem solving activity in the value stream, utilising problem solving techniques such as Ishikawa, 5 Why, & Is-Is Not analysis.
  • Produce and present customer 8D reports and corrective action plans
  • Represent the company on customer plant visits and / or conference calls to present these activities
  • Closely track overall external quality costs for the value stream

Manage and improve the IATF accredited quality system within the value stream

  • Control Planning
  • Layered auditing
  • Measurement and SPC system
  • Gauging & calibration
  • Documentation control
  • VDA 6.3 process audits
  • Preparation of production areas for customer audit

Meet leadership expectations of Senior Quality Engineering level

  • Support value stream manager as key quality representative of the value stream
  • Support quality manager as part of functional quality leadership team
  • Lead quality engineering and technician levels in the value stream, and quality function if directed

Demonstrate the personal skills required for this position

  • Able to lead change and challenge deviation where observed
  • Calm, professional but persistent approach when dealing with customers
  • Proven or developing leadership skills
  • Data and results driven
  • Able to work well in a flat, cross-functional team structure
  • Enthusiastic and able to work on own initiative, with strategic direction

Salary

£50000 negotiable

Experience

Experience in a leadership position, in a similar quality role within an automotive manufacturing environment.
