Lead Design Engineer

Circa £55,000 per annum

Coulter Elite Resourcing is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading food machinery manufacturing client in Peterborough. Our client is known for their commitment to innovation, quality, and excellence in engineering solutions.

Main Duties:

Technical:

• Provide technical direction to the team, offering sound engineering solutions to problems, supported by design analysis.
• Develop and implement innovative solutions, incorporating the latest materials, manufacturing processes, and technology to drive product range advancement.
• Manage product developments, ensuring controlled implementation across the product range.
• Take overall design responsibility for assigned projects, managing them from launch to completion.
• Ensure compliance with design standards and legislation, producing necessary documentation.
• Take ownership of equipment quality, resolving design issues during manufacturing or commissioning.
• Coordinate technical support for sales, aiding in accurate project proposals and managing project risk.
• Support and, when necessary, lead mechanical testing in the factory or on-site.
• Foster knowledge sharing across departments to enhance product sectors and promote a common approach.
• Consider and understand commercial implications in decision-making, including business risk, quality, cost, and schedule.

Team Management:

• Direct day-to-day management of team members.
• Develop recruitment and training plans for direct reports, while mentoring junior engineers.
• Manage project cost, schedule, and quality.
• Review and provide feedback on prospects including schedule, design hours, and project risk.
• Deputize for the Engineering Manager or other Lead Sector Engineers when necessary.
• Exemplify and drive company values and behaviors.
• Adhere to all company Health & Safety policies and procedures for self and others.

Candidate Profile:

• Strong hands-on experience in design, analysis, and testing of mechanical systems.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a knack for developing innovative solutions.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively.
• Experience in leading and developing other engineers.
• Commercially aware.
