Quality Manager

As Quality Manager you will ensure that the company’s product portfolio is fit for purpose, is consistent and meets both internal and external requirements, including legal compliance and customer expectations. You must fully understand the requirements for the product or service and have a sense of responsibility towards our potential and existing customers as well as the competition. The goal is to help preserve our reputation by ensuring that our products and services are capable to drive sustainable growth.

3. Responsibilities

· Implement all relevant procedures described in the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance

· Ensure that all in-house systems and procedures are updated, revised and modified to meet the needs of external certification bodies

· Respond to customer complaints putting in containment actions, full analysis, poka-yokes (error proofing), and implementing short-term and long-term countermeasures

· Champion a program for the implementation and sustainment of a continuous improvement culture

· Act as a point of contact for warranty issues

· Update quality documentation and communicate to carry forward lessons learned from quality concerns in new customer contracts

· Ensure that all necessary systems and procedures are in place to satisfy all customer requirements and audits

· Introduce new systems and procedures where appropriate

· Develop quality-process links with customers inline with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)

· Work with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers

· Make sure that production processes meet required standards

· Define quality procedures in relation to operating staff

· Set up and maintain controls and documentation procedures

· Provide technical support to the business

· Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports

· Conduct root cause investigations and corrective/preventative action plans on any nonconforming product

· Manage all quality-related issues within the manufacturing and engineering team

· Identify root cause and instigate permanent corrective actions for product quality issues

· Work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve quality issues that arise as quickly and efficiently as possible to prevent compromising quality and safety standards

· Ensure control plans and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained

· Ensure compliance and assist with adherence to the Quality Management system (ISO9001)

· Manage the high level documentation of ISO45001

· Devise and deliver in-house training for quality awareness

· Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process or system

· Assist with first off sample approvals

· Manage the Supplier Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

· Manage and coordinate customer PPM (Parts per Million), supplier PPM, supplier problem solving on time, cost recovery and supplier warranty indicators

· Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality

· Undertake special projects as required

· Contribute to continuous improvement activities

· Quality control of work by appropriate reviews

· Support and lead process improvement activities

· Write reports and present progress at project meetings

· Attend various meetings and action/communicate instructions

· Produce written reports and make presentations

· Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems

· Provide backup support for the HSE Manager

· Any other duties not listed commensurate with the requirements of the business.

5. Skills

Essential:

· Knowledge of quality systems and measurement

· Strong knowledge of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA)

· Understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes

· Planning and prioritising activities

· Problem solving skills including Six Sigma (green belt preferable)

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment

· Ability to manage a variety of cross-functional team members

Desirable:

· Lean Manufacturing knowledge

· Analytical skills

· Understanding of cost and financial impacts

· Practical H&S experience / knowledge

6. Qualifications

· Relevant business/commercial or manufacturing/engineering degree preferred, or ONC, A Levels, BTec Diploma Level 4 or equivalent NVQ level 4 qualification

· Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing

· Membership of an industry related Professional Body would be advantageous

· Hold a NEBOSH General, NVQ Level 4, NCRQ or Equivalent in occupational health and safety

· Member of IOSH and working towards CMIOSH

· Experience of managing and maintaining ISO 14001

· Ideally have an environmental management qualification such as IEMA but not essential

· Have a hands on and pro-active approach to Health and Safety

7. Experience

· Experience of working in a similar role

· Previous experience in a high volume manufacturing automotive environment or Tier-1 supplier to the automotive industry

· Experience in compiling and actioning:

- PFMEA.

- Control plans.

- Process flow charts.

- Measurement system and analysis

· Manage the Health and Safety of around 100 employees on site.

· Review, update and maintain the companies HSE Policies and Procedures

· Manage and maintain the companies EMS System and ISO 14001 Accreditation

· Liaise with the Local Authorities and Environment Agency

· Conduct COSHH Assessments

· Conduct regular risk assessments and audits to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and implement appropriate control measures to mitigate occupational health and safety risks across all areas of the foundry operations.

· Provide guidance and support to management and employees on health, safety, and environmental matters, promoting best practices and fostering a culture of safety awareness and accountability.

· Lead investigations into incidents, accidents, near misses, and environmental spills, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and deliver effective health, safety, and environmental training programs, ensuring that employees are adequately trained to perform their roles safely and in compliance with relevant standards

· Monitor and analyze HSE performance metrics and trends, preparing reports and making recommendations for improvement to senior management.

· Stay abreast of emerging health, safety, and environmental trends, regulations, and best practices, and proactively incorporate relevant changes into the organization's HSE management systems.

· Drive initiatives to minimize environmental impact, reduce waste generation, and promote sustainability within the foundry operations.
