Mechanical Project Manager

The successful candidate must have experience of managing M&E, building services or MEP projects, ideally in the low carbon/renewables sector.

Our client is one of the UK’s leaders and specialises in working with numerous sectors to deliver low carbon and renewable energy multi-technology generation, distribution, and consumption solutions, with turnkey design, build, upgrade, renewal and delivery of energy efficiency projects, adding value to its clients in a number of ways from high quality contract delivery to provision of funding solutions and technical consultancy services. Services include (but are not limited to): CHP, various low carbon and renewable energy solutions, energy from waste, air and ground source heat pumps, BESS, solar PV, biomass, energy centres, HIU’s, ESCo, and communal and district heating.

The business has a strong can-do ethos with a passion for making things happen. Our client has experienced a period of significant growth, and indeed is set on an envious upwards trajectory over the next 5-10 years, and consequently wishes to appoint a high calibre Mechanical Project Manager. The role will oversee all aspects of numerous projects and frameworks across a range of clients. Success will be measured and achieved through effective management and servicing of clients, coupled with the focus upon maintaining net margins and a high level of staff satisfaction, whilst also liaising closely with the Director in providing regular progress and general business reporting.  

The Role 

  • To direct contracts and daily operations with a hands-on approach to all activities
  • To help develop and implement strategic plans for successful contract delivery, ensuring that all goals are either achieved or bettered with an emphasis upon service excellence
  • Effectively support all activities regarding helping operations, construction, commercial / financial, staff, quality, health and safety and general business planning
  • To act as a focal point, helping to steer and guide your contracts forward, ensuring full client liaison and satisfaction, coupled with moving the company ahead by increasing service levels and client focus
  • Working with the commercial team to ensure effective cash flow management and profitability of schemes under your control
  • Producing management reports on time and co-operating with internal departments
  • Hold regular review meetings with staff in developing a proactive focus upon quality, overheads, manpower, programming, organisation and delivery aspects
  • Help to develop the supply chain and sub-contractor partnering process, if necessary, to improve upon existing terms and SLA’s if possible
  • Ensure a high level of teamwork and cohesion between all levels of staff
  • Chair and direct regular meetings with staff to discuss progress, whilst providing the Director with reports, and liaise with other senior managers in regard to operating policy and opportunities for work
  • Ensure projects are compliant with H&S, ISO, regulatory and company standards

The Person

  • Educated to degree or HND level in a mechanical engineering, building services or related discipline, coupled with proven experience in a similar role within the aforementioned sectors
  • Possess confidence, passion, tenacity and drive, and the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Project budget / cost / financial / commercial management experience
  • Highly organised with advanced time and team management skills
  • Understanding of sites, projects, operations, contracts and supply chain management within the aforementioned sectors
  • Implementing and enforcing company policies and objectives
  • Ability to gain confidence of clients and teams, and create and maintain strong working relationships
  • Possess a keen interest in the energy efficiency and decarbonisation industry
  • Full clean driving licence, and ideally a relevant H&S qualification (NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS etc)
  • Experience of managing and delivering mechanical engineering, M&E or building services based projects
