Job Purpose 

The System Safety and Compliance Manager plays a pivotal role in leading and managing a multidisciplinary team responsible for ensuring the safety, regulatory compliance, and performance attributes of high voltage battery pack systems within the automotive industry. This role is critical for overseeing comprehensive safety assessments, regulatory compliance activities, and performance attribute evaluations to ensure the development of safe, reliable, and compliant electric vehicles. By leveraging expertise in functional safety, homologation, and system safety, the Manager drives excellence in safety engineering practices and regulatory adherence across all stages of product development. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Team Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to the system safety and compliance team, comprising functional safety engineers, homologation engineers, and system safety and attributes engineers. Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation to ensure team effectiveness and success. 

  • Safety Engineering: Oversee the development and implementation of comprehensive safety engineering processes, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, and safety requirements management. Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 26262 and relevant safety regulations. 

  • Functional Safety: Define safety goals and requirements for high voltage battery pack systems. Lead the development of safety concepts, safety architectures, and safety plans to achieve target safety integrity levels (ASIL). 

  • Regulatory Compliance: Manage regulatory compliance activities to ensure adherence to applicable regulations, directives, and standards governing high voltage battery pack systems. Stay abreast of evolving regulatory landscape and update compliance strategies accordingly. 

  • Performance Attributes: Lead the evaluation of performance attributes such as reliability, durability, and functional safety attributes of battery pack systems. Define performance metrics, conduct analyses, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance and reliability. 

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with engineering, testing, design, and manufacturing teams to integrate safety and compliance considerations into the overall product development process. Provide guidance and support to ensure alignment with safety and compliance objectives. 

  • Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to safety, compliance, and performance attributes throughout the product development lifecycle. Develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to address potential issues and challenges. 

  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety engineering practices, regulatory compliance processes, and performance attribute evaluations. Implement best practices, tools, and methodologies to optimize team effectiveness and efficiency. 

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree (e.g., MSc, PhD) preferred. 

  • Proven experience in safety engineering, regulatory compliance, or related roles within the automotive industry, with a focus on electric vehicle systems. 

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, including team management, project planning, and strategic decision-making. 

  • In-depth knowledge of safety engineering principles, methodologies, and standards such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and relevant automotive safety regulations. 

  • Experience in functional safety assessment, hazard analysis, risk assessment, and safety requirements management. 

  • Familiarity with homologation processes, regulatory requirements, and certification standards governing electric vehicle systems. 

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, regulatory authorities, and external stakeholders. 

  • Proven track record of driving innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within a safety and compliance environment. 

  • Professional certifications (e.g., Certified Functional Safety Engineer) and memberships in relevant industry associations are advantageous
