Are you an experienced Design Engineer with either a background in commercial vehicle system design, or strong design skills in a capital equipment. Do you prefer a varied workload which incorporates whole lifecycle design processes?

If so, then this role would suit you if you like working on different projects and a variety of products.

Who would this role suit?

This role is perfect for someone with a relevant engineering qualification who has experience with Solidworks and AutoCAD drawing packages.  You will need to be an effective team player and have the confidence to work with our experienced team of fabricator/welders, bodybuilders and electrical fitters to ensure our customers receive the products they requested.

What is the role?

  • You will be responsible for drawing up parts & assemblies to suit customer requirements. The role will evolve with experience by interpreting customer requirements into appropriate and cost-effective designs that can be fabricated by the workshop team, and which support lean manufacturing processes.
  • The main duties and responsibilities of a Design Engineer are:
  • To work with the Senior Design Manager understanding the customer requirements so that accurate designs and drawings can be agreed  
  • To measure all around vehicles to design bespoke equipment
  • Interpret customer requirements to prepare technically correct and accurate drawing.
  • Liaise with sales departments and purchasing team to ensure that all appropriate materials will be available to complete the current customer specification.
  • Relevant and accurate detailed drawings are produced that support the capabilities of the machinery within the Company. All designs comply with current vehicle type approval requirements. Lean manufacturing processes are used wherever possible
  • Maintain awareness of technical developments.
  • To produce relevant and detailed technical drawings and 3D models for each project that use the most efficient and cost-effective methods
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all related administration    
  • ​Coordinate activities to transfer new products into production.
  • Update production personnel of any key requirements and support once in production if issues occur, feeding back improvement ideas and solutions

You will need to have the following experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent vocational qualification
  • 2 years + in a capex/bespoke engineering sector role
  • A strong understanding of engineering processes, materials, and manufacturing techniques.
  • CAD Experience – Solidworks, Inventor
  • Experience in DFMEA
  • A strong attention to Detail
  • Excellent Communication skills
