Our Essex based client is a specialist machinery manufacturer employing approximately 70 staff at their purpose built design, engineering and office building near Basildon.

The basic equipment is made abroad and is then shipped over for final assembly, adding controls and ancillary equipment before being tested and shipped to the customer

All panel building, wiring and PLC programming is done on site and various other departments specialise in pneumatics, mechanical systems, machining, machine assembly, commissioning and documentation.

We are looking to appoint a Technical Author/Validation Engineer as part of our Documentation Department in Laindon, Essex. The role will involve working as part of a team to support Project Managers and Engineering Technicians on a variety of tasks and is required due to an increase in demand and workload.

The role will initially focus on performing tests on machines within our factory using pre-prepared test protocols to support the verification process of the machines. This is intended to provide consistency in the testing approach from one to the next, whilst also learning how each machine operates.

The successful applicant will need to demonstrate skills in mechanical, electrical and/or systems engineering (e.g. HNC trained engineering apprentice or engineering graduate with some previous work experience within an engineering environment) and have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Some previous testing experience would also be beneficial.

General working will expose the applicant to a range of engineering areas and training will be provided to familiarise them with the specialist machinery and equipment we supply.

Alongside the testing activities, the role will also include:

  • Reporting the outcome of tests and provide feedback to help improve the testing process
  • Assisting technical personnel with the review and update of Equipment Design Specifications and Qualification Documentation
  • Liaising with all departments during the equipment build process
  • Preparing equipment Operator and Technical Manuals in line with relevant machinery standards and essential health and safety requirements for UKCA/CE marking, functional safety, ATEX certification

As experience of the documentation requirements and machine functionality increases, the role will expand to include additional tasks such as: -

  • Preparing Qualification Documentation expected by the Pharmaceutical Industry (DQ, IQ and OQ documents)
  • Preparing Equipment Design Specifications for reference by customers and internal staff
  • Interpreting customer User Requirements Specifications and support documentation
  • Liaising with suppliers and customers Validation departments during projects
  • Conducting Site Acceptance Tests at customers sites
