Mechanical Design Engineer

We are looking for a Design Engineer to join a business who produce OEM equipment for Blue Chip companies but also involved with a number of diverse and interesting third-party design and build projects for other non-related UK and European customers.

The Mechanical Design Engineer :

• Work closely with the existing design team to fully understand the customers’ needs and performance requirements.

• Design with cost in mind using cost effective decisions.

• Evaluate design concept technical and project risks.

• Hands on production & R&D machine build

• Working on existing designs, overcome mechanical problems, providing evidence, 3D models and fully details drawings (Solidworks CAD) and Vault.

• Be able to work with the team but also individually on new projects from concept to production ensuring designs are robustly engineered.

• Liaising with a multi-disciplined team during development and also with suppliers to ensure correct materials and parts are sourced.

• Will have the ability to take designs into production

• Knowledge of BOM configurations (Sage system).

• Presenting designs throughout the project and holding design reviews to peers.

• Completing ECN work on existing designs.

• Be able to identify ISO standards which have a direct impact on the design.

• Knowledge of machining methods and sheet metal designs.

• Have experience in industrial design to ensure the company produces aesthetically pleasing solutions to design briefs.

• Experience working with gears, drives and motors.

The Person

This position requires a highly motivated, forward thinking individual with good commercial business sense and an eye for detail. The ability to work to deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously, thinking through the best design options to achieve the optimum overall cost within the budgetary constraints and project projections.

• Educated to Degree / HND level in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

• Minimum 5 years engineering design experience

• 3 years 3D CAD using Solidworks, also have experience in AutoCAD 

• Strong ‘ideas’ person

• Very hands on with initial build

• Good communicator

• Strong verbal and written skills.

£35,000 to £40,000

36 Hours a Week Monday to Thursday
