Purchasing Project Leader

Main Purpose:

Reporting directly to either Purchasing Project Manager or Purchase Manager, the role is responsible for coordinating and supporting all Purchasing activity in relation to NPIP activity and localisation projects.

In essence, the co-ordination involves the execution of the New Product Introduction Purchasing Policy to ensure that the Purchasing part in a new project is consistently delivered in line with the expectations of the business.

In order to balance the workload and support all programmes, this is a flexible role that may require move into and / or support other manufacturing locations depending on Group priorities.

Key Performance Area’s:

Strategy Development & Integration: Ensure that Purchasing support the introduction of new machines in a consistent manner across the Group that facilitates the execution of appropriate category strategies.

Materials / Supply Management: Ensure that production supplier launch activities, whilst mitigating potential risk, are aligned to the business, transparent and consistently measured across the group.

Business Management & Coordination: Ensure that any risk to project builds from a supply of components perspective are clearly articulated to relevant stakeholders, risk registers are transparent and mitigation plans are effectively communicated.

Relationship Management: Ensuring cross functional alignment with the NPIP and Operations teams with regards to the effective launch of new machines.

Teamwork & Self Development: Shares best practice and lessons learned with peers to support others with objectives whilst driving personal development plan.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategy Development & Integration:

▪ Support the creation of and maintenance of the NPIP Group Policy to ensure Purchasing effectively support the successful launch of new machines.

▪ Ensure the team or the individual projects have a standard reporting tool in place to communicate Purchasing and supplier performance on new programmes.

▪ Ensure that the business expectations are clearly communicated to the supply base.

▪ Support the creation and delivery of an Early Supplier Engagement programme designed to optimise timing, achieve right first time results and comply with category strategies.

Materials / Supply Management:

▪ In conjunction with the Senior Supplier Development Engineers, oversee a Launch Readiness Programme in order to mitigate potential risk to the programmes.

▪ Ensure lessons learned from supply situations are transparent and required improvements are rolled out across the group.

▪ Support the closure of all supplier quality and delivery concerns that are escalated for parts required on pre-production machines.

▪ Communicate the overall state of readiness for all builds and Job 1 requirements.

▪ Co-ordinate the complete project handover to the materials function.

▪ Ensure that commitments made in Gate reviews with regards to the mitigation plans on risk registers are delivered.

▪ Support the supplier risk governance reviews and the consequential actions relating to securing new machine launches.

▪ Mitigate potential risk to the business as a consequence of poor performing suppliers.

Business Management & Coordination:

▪ Ensure that all Purchasing NPIP is managed and reported consistently across the Group.

▪ Set up an appropriate forum to ensure that mitigation plans and concessions with regards to part availability are effectively communicated to all relevant stakeholders.

▪ Link the category and NPIP teams to identify opportunities of introducing savings projects on the launch of new machines.

▪ Communicate the NPIP pipeline (containing key machine attributes) to all relevant peers and stakeholders.

▪ Communicate the cost roll up and movement throughout the project of new parts to all relevant parties.

Relationship Management:

▪ Build relationships at appropriate levels within the organisation to support the facilitation of initiatives and understanding of the function.

▪ Work closely with the category teams to understand the overall timing and benefits of current strategies under development.

▪ Work closely with Supplier Development to align the combined resource to best support the launch plans.

▪ Work on a Go / No Go communication tool to provide the ops teams with the data required to build or not.

Teamwork & Self Development:

▪ Ensure that there is effective communication between all Purchasing Project leaders.

▪ Provide Engineering feedback to commercial teams with regards to supplier performance and capability.

▪ Understands the business performance requirements and effectively communicates to the supply base.

▪ Circulates PCM’s and / or visit reports promptly following visits and take ownership in closing out all issues.

▪ Drives their personal development.

▪ Ensures adherence to and understanding of Purchasing policies and procedures.

Experience & Qualifications

▪ 5 years relevant experience of supplier management within a manufacturing environment.

▪ Success in leading multiple teams. (Direct & Virtual)

▪ Holding and building senior relationships within a global / matrix organisation.

▪ Graduate calibre in manufacturing or engineering, with particular emphasis on quality, operations and materials management.

▪ Preferably with professional qualifications. (CIP’s or Prince2)
