The successful candidate will join our System Support Team who provides our clients with planned and reactive maintenance activities at their sites across the UK.

Job Role

System Support
Provide technical support to our clients, responding to inquiries, troubleshooting system issues, and resolving problems efficiently to minimise downtime.

Preventive Maintenance
Conduct routine inspections, system audits, and preventive maintenance activities to ensure the continuous operation and reliability of control systems.

Fault Finding and Diagnostics
Identify and analyse complex system faults, utilising troubleshooting techniques, diagnostic tools, and procedures to resolve issues effectively.

System Optimisation
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement system modifications, upgrades, and enhancements to improve performance, efficiency, and functionality.

Documentation
Maintain accurate records of system configurations, maintenance activities, troubleshooting procedures, and solutions provided, ensuring comprehensive documentation for future reference.

Training and Support
Train end-users and support personnel on the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control systems, empowering them to handle basic system issues independently.

Continuous Improvement
Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to control system engineering, and actively contribute ideas for process improvements and innovation within the organisation.

To fulfil this role you will need a strong knowledge of control systems principles, including hardware, software, and networking components. You will need experience in electrical fault finding, PLC programming, and be familiar with SCADA systems.

You will be based at our head office, but due to the nature of the role you will be required to also work at our clients’ sites across the UK.

Working Hours

Our normal working week comprises of 40 hours, and we operate a flexible working hours scheme. All employees are required to be in the office between core hours of 09:30 and 16:00 Monday to Thursday, on a Friday employees may leave at 13:00 subject to work commitments. As part of your role you will be expected to undertake a reasonable amount of overtime including some night shifts and weekends.

On-Call

On completion of your probationary period or when you are trained to a sufficient level, you will be expected to participate in the on-call rota. This is likely to be for 1 week out of each month where you are required to carry a call-out phone 24/7 and must be available to respond to a customer call-out where necessary. For this you will be remunerated £100/ week plus any time at the relevant rate where you have responded to a call out of hours.

In addition, we currently support our London contracts by means of an on-call engineer rota living in London. Once sufficiently trained we would expect you to participate in this rota whereby you would live in London for 1 week in the accommodation provided for you, for this you would receive an additional £500 per week.

Required Experience/ Qualifications

  • Full UK Driving License
  • Previous experience in providing technical support for control systems or similar systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in control systems, such as PLC programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text).
  • Familiarity with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and HMI (Human Machine Interface) design.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard control system protocols, such as Modbus, Profibus, or Ethernet/IP.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

We don’t anticipate you having expertise in all of the above and are prepared to offer on-the-job training and mentoring to address any skill gaps for the suitable candidate.
