Purpose of the role

We need your skills and experience to join our innovative team helping to deliver the connected mobility solutions that will enable the low carbon economy we envision. 

 

You will be part of the New Mobility Technologies directorate enabling a greener, more sustainable, and effective transport system fit for the future movement of goods and people. Our aims are to:   

 

  • Stimulate innovation in the transport sector   
  • Develop new transport markets 
  • Support the transition to new transport systems  
  • Maintain the UK’s position as world leading innovator, decarbonizing transport for the benefit of the society   

 

To achieve these aims, we apply a holistic systems approach to innovation, bringing together inter-related components of a successful innovation Programme to maximize impact and leverage initiatives.  

 

  • Enabling deployment of automation, through removal of barriers and transfer of knowledge to industry through collaboration and trial design. 
  • Supporting the maritime industry through free port innovation, becoming smart and transitioning to clean energy.
  • Decarbonisation of transport across modes in energy evaluation/selection and through large scale implementation and deployment planning working with Government and industry sector in Road, Maritime, Aviation and Rail infrastructure.   
  • Design and develop future traffic management and integration guidance through working with Government, local authority, and technology companies. Enabling open market, transforming future intelligent transport.   
  • Applying innovation to support logistics across the supply chain, supporting delivery of the end-to-end logistic roadmap, understanding the value of freight, and unlocking investment to support the UK economy.  

Key Responsibilities

 

We are looking for creative and energetic individuals, with a passion for making a difference and the ability to contribute to and accelerate the development of future transport. You will work collaboratively across CPC and with industry to shape and deliver collaborative projects enabling development of future transport that will lead to national and regional economic growth.

This means you will play a key role in delivering work packages or entire projects, working with colleagues and external partners. Project demands will vary, and we want you to utilise your strengths to maximise your impact.

As a Systems Engineer in the Mobility Technology Innovation directorate, your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide technical leadership in projects relating to one or more initiatives on behalf of a range of commercial and government clients 
  • Work with industry partners to build capabilities for growth and innovation in order to address market barriers
  • Play a key role in developing project ideas on one or more initiatives 
  • Own and manage relationships with customers, project partners and other industry/government/academic stakeholders 
  • Leading technical work packages within projects and may have overall project leadership responsibility.
  • Deliver impactful analysis and reports to customers in a range of new mobility areas 
  • Provide technical support to junior colleagues 
  • Contribute to business development by identifying opportunities and contributing to proposals and bidding activity as required 
  • Represent CPC at relevant industry events, conferences, and meetings as appropriate 
  • Ensuring an ethos of equity, inclusivity and diversity underpin your work activity, contributing to inclusive innovation across all Catapult activities  
  • You may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties to support the Catapult in achieving its strategic outcomes and ensure effective business operations including providing cover for members of the team as required, working from other CPC offices, and travelling to partner and customer sites
