What you’ll be doing

As the founding and sole Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and managing Hook's cloud infrastructure. You also will help drive continuous improvements to our engineering standards, practices and tools.

Design implement and maintain highly available infrastructure 

    • Set clear metrics for uptime, scalability and fault tolerance and ensure infrastructure solutions meet or exceed these benchmarks

Oversight and development of cloud infrastructure:

    • Establish and track KPIs related to Kubernetes cluster performance, RDS database uptime, ML pipeline efficiency, and AWS infrastructure cost optimisation
    • Utilise Terraform to automate infrastructure provisioning and manage infrastructure as code, ensuring consistency and reproducibility

Integration of new components into stack:

    • Quantify the impact of integrating new components into the technology stack, such as improved data analytics capabilities or enhanced search functionality.
    • Monitor system performance before and after integration, measuring factors like query response times and user engagement metrics.

CI/CD tooling development:

    • Define key performance indicators for CI/CD processes, including build and deployment times, error rates, and deployment frequency to optimise

Internal tooling development

    • Measure the efficiency gains achieved through internal tooling development, such as reduced manual tasks or improved collaboration among teams.
    • Track user feedback and adoption rates to assess the effectiveness of internal tools in simplifying workflows and improving productivity.

Requirements

Your background may include:

  • Experience or comfortable being in a standalone Platform / DevOps role (preferably at a start up)
  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering, System Design, and Distributed Computing
  • Strong understanding of networking, operating systems, and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code. We use Terraform
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools 
  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment systems.
