An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Eurostar as its Electrical Systems Engineer. You will be based in our Engineering Centre in Leyton.

Internal use only: Grade E based in TMI. Travel Level:3

As a Systems Engineer you will be allocated responsibility for one or several train systems and you will act as the Eurostar technical authority for that system. As the Electrical Systems Engineer you are responsible for the safe and reliable performance of your specific train system.

Requirements

You’ll have…

  • Act as the EIL technical authority for their relevant system(s), be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of said system(s)
  • Work with EIL’s Performance team and maintainers to ensure that pertinent data are collected and all system issues are monitored, prioritized and resolved as required.
  • Analyse allocated system data sets to identify trends, failure modes and other performance issues.
  • Analyse defects to root cause level.
  • Continuously improve the maintenance regime (tasks and periodicities) in response to system data analysis, lessons learnt, reliability performance and safety.
  • Investigate and evaluate potential opportunities within the allocated system to drive down costs, improve productivity, increase safety, improve availability, etc.
  • Build strong working relationships within EIL across all departments, with key suppliers and external stakeholders (e.g. Siemens, SNCF, SNCB, Masteris, Eurotunnel, HS1 etc.).
  • Support the maintainers to resolve their technical queries on the allocated systems.
  • Develop/Produce fault finding guides to aid the maintainers with defect resolution.
  • Support graduates and apprentices with their technical and professional development.
  • Produce risk assessments with technical and operational considerations.
  • Be a methodical worker applying project management knowledge.
  • Produce and evaluate business cases for proposed Engineering Changes.
  • Support work activities at continental depots as may be required, preferably in French.

Essential

  • Have an appropriate qualification in an engineering discipline (e.g HNC/D, Degree).
  • Demonstrate relevant experience in an operational engineering environment.
  • Have working knowledge of industry standards.
  • Be a ‘systems thinker’, fully aware of the interaction between their system and other rolling stock and/or groundside systems.
  • Be able to understand and explain technical problems with suppliers, peers and non-technical operational staff both verbally and written, in-person and remotely.
  • Be familiar with key Microsoft Office tools and particularly the manipulation of data within Excel.
  • Ability to work autonomously.

Desirable

  • Ability to speak French, or willingness to learn would be advantageous.
  • Although not essential, some hands-on experience would be advantageous.
  • Ideally be professionally accredited or working towards it.
