At LEX Diagnostics, were recruiting for an experienced mechanical design engineer to take charge of the tool and fixture design across various teams including Engineering, reagent production, cartridge manufacturing, and assay development.

This role holds particular significance for the LEX Diagnostics team as we strive to progress towards the development of verification equipment and the commercialisation of the LEX System. Ideally, you will have prior experience in either the medical device industry or another regulated sector, demonstrating ISO 13485 compliance. You’re an experienced mechanical design engineer who enjoys creating tools and fixtures that lead to success. 

What you will be doing:

  • Developing new hardware tools to standardise, quantify and improve techniques across the company.
  • Designing and constructing test fixtures for both informal test and formal verification purposes.
  • Designing or modifying prototype parts to refine final product design.
  • Collaborating with external suppliers to source/manufacture components.
  • Identifying and suggesting improvements for system enhancements and assisting in implementing these improvements.

Requirements

Skills and experience required to be successful in this position:

  • Experience using CAD design software, ideally Solidworks.
  • Mechanical Engineer degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in developing test rigs, jigs and fixtures to support with product development.
  • Able to perform a analysis using GD&T (Geometric dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Confident with the development of formal verification equipment, including ensuring the correct level of calibration and documentation.
  • Capable of conducting manual calculations and employing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to guide design decisions.
