The Role

As an Engineering Lead at Plum you will lead an agile team of engineers on engineering practices, processes, and continuous improvement.

Our Squads are mission driven and include Product Managers, Designers, Backend and Mobile engineers, aiming to develop and maintain products, services and tools towards an unforgettable user experience, as well as aiding any related operations from Plum’s side.

Squads are organised into Pillars which align with our different strategic business areas. We trust massively on data driven, well informed squads that own their work.
Engineering leaders are accountable for the technical quality and delivery outcomes of their area. They are leaders that put their people in the best condition to grow in their professional journey and make them achieve their mission successfully.

In this position, your goal will be to lead the team in delivering results considering the agreed company targets, owning and supporting the systems they build. At the same time, you will be responsible for your team’s growth and coaching by being a role model and a mentor to them.

You will focus on:

  • Leading a team of engineers through coaching and mentoring
  • Owning delivery of your squad, closely collaborating with a Product Manager and Product Designers to understand desired application capabilities and features
  • Driving technical excellence in collaboration with chapter leads and senior engineers
  • Leading technical design reviews and code reviews, enabling excellence of  technical outcomes of your squad and the professional growth of your individual members
  • Establishing a suitable team process and a continuous improvement environment, utilising Agile methodologies
  • Owning the full lifecycle of components and services in the Plum stack along with your team, including architecture design and planning, development, testing, deployment and production support
  • Defining and tracking metrics to assess the quality and performance of the team
  • Managing performance and career development of team members, working with them to define goals, track progress, and give feedback. We really value transparent and continual feedback
  • Bringing a passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community
  • Keeping your team happy and productive, being responsible for their well-being and the fulfilment of their career goals
  • Being the champion of positive impact for our users, continuously contributing on improving our standards in the wider engineering organisation

We are looking for someone: 

  • Experienced in leading cross functional teams, focused on outcomes and business impact
  • With past experience enabling right technical decisions
  • Experienced in creating high performing teams
  • With strong planning and prioritisation skills
  • Able to promote continuous improvement by identifying process efficiencies and quality improvements
  • Able to share product insights with stakeholders and challenge product decisions
  • With demonstrated capacity to clearly and concisely communicate complex technical, architectural, and/or organisational challenges and propose thorough iterative solutions
  • With a background as a great software engineer, architect, even if the role is not hands on coding, we believe that this is important to be able to drive engineering excellence and lead engineers
  • Used to enabling individual members to develop their skills and be successful in the professional journey
  • Experienced in working with Agile methodologies
  • Self-motivated and self-managing, with excellent organisational skills
