Within the Design Service Alliance (DSA), the SMPrO Operating Unit delivers core Asset Care & Gated Project Delivery services, supporting Sellafield’s risk and hazard reduction strategy. 

As a Design Partner to Sellafield Ltd, SMPrO provides a range of services from Estimating, Planning and Scheduling, Cost Engineering, Project and Programme Management services.  

The Junior Project Manager has a key function within the AXIOM JV and the role will be the steppingstone to gaining a broader experience in design and construction within some of the most challenging projects on the NDA estate.  

Whether embarking on a Project Management, or Project Controls career, it is vital to understand all disciplines of the profession. Working within the diverse environment of SMPrO will widen both knowledge and practical experience whilst adding real time value. 

The Junior PM will be responsible for implementing fundamental work processes used in Design and Construction, supporting all three project dimensions of time, cost and quality through the following:  

  • Development of estimates, budgets and contract administration of task orders. 
  • Supporting the development of plans and schedules  
  • Tracking performance against budgets and schedules; correlating performance information against work processes and producing project actuals and forecasts.
  • Analysing variances of both direct hire and contract hire work activities.  
  • Identifying trends where deviations are about to occur unless action is taken  
  • Preparing content for project status reports.  
  • Identifying potential scope changes. 
  • Controlling the scope of the project – controlling change. 
  • Ensuring that the project’s products/deliverables fulfil their requirements 
  • Managing risks. 

Working in an integrated project team, they will also be responsible for providing management and planning services to projects and proposals, as well as supporting wider improvement initiatives and programmes within the SMPrO portfolio. This will entail:

  • Promote planning best practice internally and externally.  
  • Understand routes to project success, develop programmes around key milestones.  
  • Identifying project risk, communicating key information to relevant stakeholders.  
  • Contribute to problem solving and innovative thinking to both tender programmes and live projects.  
  • Produce detailed programmes and options, with support, accurately and efficiently required.  
  • Develop relationships with internal teams, consultants, clients, and the wider supply chain.
