Our client is one of the UK's leading Tier 1 Principal Contractors, delivering major project solutions across a range of infrastructure and civil engineering projects and as part of long-term framework contracts.

With a guaranteed 4-year work bank, our client is looking for a stand-alone Estimator with experience of pricing civil engineering packages from 1st Principles.

As the ideal candidate, you with have experience pricing civils packages between £200k - £4.5m, on a project yearly work bank of £30-£40m per year, with nature of works including geotechnical, soil nailing, drainage, earthworks etc. The packages will include a mix of self-delivery and subcontractor works.

Previous estimating, engineering or project experience will include working on civil engineering assets such as embankments, cuttings, scour protection, earthworks and drainage.

Our client is happy for this role to be hybrid, with a 3-2 office / home split.

Estimator roles and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will have responsibility for carrying out measurements, takes-off and first principle calculations, Undertaking package analysis following initial tender enquiries to ensure no scope gap, and possess a sound knowledge of civil engineering techniques, outputs and resources. Duties will include:

  • Coordinate quantity take-off as required and develop BoQ.
  • Manage supply chain enquiries and analyses quotations, issue material/equipment buying to Supply Chain colleagues, analyses quotations, and ensure that pricing reflects the requirements of the Supply Chain, Materials and Plant Suppliers;
  • Ensures pricing aligned to delivery programmes and the methodology and productivity that the planning and engineering teams have agreed, supporting the engagement of designers during the tender phase.
  • Prices alternative designs, methods and programmes to promote innovation.
  • Price Tender Risk and Opportunity Schedule and prepare Risk Committee documentation as required.
  • Review tender evaluation criteria and develops winning strategies, and prepare tender review documentation, and complete pricing submission documents.

Estimator requirements:

  • Civil Engineering or Commercial Degree, or similar qualification and relevant experience
  • 4+ years' experience as an working on Civil Engineering infrastructure projects, with rail an advantage but not essential.
  • Conversant with different types of Estimating Software and generally strong IT Skills.
  • Able to carry out measurements, takes-off and 1st Principle calculations.
  • Experience in package analysis following initial tender enquiries to ensure no scope gap.
  • Awareness of current construction technologies and methods and how these impact on outputs and costs.
  • Understanding of civil engineering resources, their costs and outputs and how these translate to the overall project cost.
  • Knowledge of risk management procedures and how these impact on cost estimates.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external customers and suppliers.
