Position: Interim Mechanical Engineer

Rate: £315.00 per day (umbrella)

A North London local authority is currently seeking an experienced Interim Mechanical Engineer. This role offers a opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining the mechanical infrastructure of the community, ensuring efficiency, sustainability, and excellence in service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide expert mechanical engineering services, including the specification and design of new mechanical systems.
• Inspect works, undertake fault-finding, and act as a contract administrator and project manager for mechanical projects.
• Oversee the Council’s existing Heat Meter retrofit programme for communal and district heating systems.
• Chair regular progress meetings with contractors and manage consultant relationships.
• Produce comprehensive technical reports, specifications, and maintain detailed records.
• Respond to resident enquiries and assist with the leaseholder Section 20 process.
• Manage budgets, process contractor payment applications, and support the Council’s Strategy Team on Pre-payment systems.
• Collaborate with various teams including New Build and Maintenance, assisting with heat meter enquiries, specifications, and procurement contracts.

Requirements:

• Qualified as a Chartered Engineer or full member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers.
• Extensive experience in managing retrofit and new build mechanical installations, communal heating, and low-carbon mechanical systems.
• In-depth understanding of heat networks, metering, billing regulations, and local authority requirements.
• Proven ability to design, manage, and oversee complex mechanical projects.
• Strong technical knowledge and skills in heat meter data analysis and application.
