What you need to know about the role

As a British Steel Maintenance Engineer, you'll be part of our team that turns ideas into products.

You'll be involved in the development, testing, improvement and maintenance of mechanical preparation and testing machines, analytical instruments and infrastructure.

You’ll be expected to generate conceptual proposals, turning them into viable solutions considering factors such as safety, manufacture, cost and quality – to name but a few. Your challenge is to meet our stringent safety and production requirements, whilst giving British Steel leading edge performance.

You’ll lead a small Engineering team across two manufacturing sites in Scunthorpe and Teesside to safely deliver the maintenance schedule for both assets and buildings, deploy continuous improvement principles, lead on engineering compliance to business standards and be involved in driving Major Maintenance and CAPEX projects on behalf of the department.

What we need to know about you

We’re looking for someone with excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills. Combining your technical and engineering knowledge, you'll know how to collaborate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Qualified to degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline with significant, demonstrable experience in a similar role, you will need to be someone who works well in a fast, high paced, customer focused environment.

Experience of maintenance techniques involving workshop machines such as industrial saws, CNC milling machines and lathes, analytical instruments and mechanical testing machines would be of benefit.
