The EC&I engineer develops control strategies and designs, and delivers Real Time Control software (ladder) and process documentation for companies manufacturing process development projects. They have overall responsibility for delivery of capable control systems for current and future systems, ensuring the safety of the process, minimising energy consumption, and maximising product output.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Designs and Develops control automation systems for plant equipment
  • Provides Control and Instrumentation input to the Process Engineering team, to design new manufacturing processes and control systems
  • Supports process development projects with input regarding instrumentation and control component requirements, selection and integration
  • Writes/Develops and maintains control systems and documentation, such as ladder logic code, logic diagrams, function block diagrams, SCADA interfaces, input and output lists and electrical / control schematics
  • Trains software and controls / instrumentation engineers
  • Analyzes EC&I (incl software) requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints
  • Consults with other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system
  • Uses analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of control system design.
  • Develops and directs software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation.
  • Coordinates installation, maintenance and upgrades of control systems
  • Develops and maintains SCADA interfaces

Person Specification

 Essential

  • A BSc degree in electrical, chemical or similar engineering, or equivalent level of experience
  • Two years of control system development experience in an engineering industry; including software development
  • The ability to perform engineering mathematical calculations, such as electrical power, heat and flow
  • Competent computer skills such as excel formulae, visio and CAD drafting software
  • Ability to assume responsibility, be flexible, perform duties and handle multiple tasks under potentially stressful and/or hazardous conditions
  • Takes initiative and is proactive in addressing issues. Quickly and efficiently completes tasks
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment with less definition, policy, and bureaucracy
  • Works indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment with potential exposure to temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment.

Desirable

  • Qualified, trained or experienced in technical disciplines related to the job such as Electrical, Real-time Control, Programming, Control theory, Industrial or Chemical Equipment design, HAZID/HAZOP, FMEA
  • Demonstrable experience with design / specification of control systems, incl. instrumentation, electrical design and modelling
  • Experience in related industrial areas such as chemical plant, industrial equipment design. Experience in large plant design is particularly beneficial
  • Experience with Siemens PLC equipment is particularly beneficial
