Tooling Technician

Alliance Personnel are currently recruiting for Tooling Technician to join one of their clients based in Birmingham, B12.

Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 4pm, Friday 7:30am - 12:30pm

Job purpose

A Tooling Technician is required to manage and oversee the CNC machine tool store and to carry out pre-setting of machine tools which will then need to be delivered to the CNC machines, along with the necessary tooling, in time to meet the production schedule.

Role Duties

• Carrying out pre-setting of tooling and storing it in the correct locations.
• Making sure tooling and fixtures are picked and delivered to the CNC machine ready for the next setup before the machine stops running the previous job.
• Maintaining stock levels of all consumables i.e. carbide inserts, cutters, drills, form tools etc.
• Co-ordinating requests for new tooling and repair or replacement of damaged tooling.
• Disassembling tooling where required and locating the stock in the tooling management system.
• Developing the in-house tool management system.
• Propose improvement to tooling setup, measurement & storage processes to improve machine uptime and minimise costs.
• Involvement in Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives
• Any other duties that may from time to time be reasonably expected.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of machining processes & tooling for both turning & milling
• Familiar with the use of Microsoft software packages, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Skills

• Experience & knowledge of all types of manual & CNC machine tools.
• Ability to work to engineering drawings.
• Be innovative in terms of problem solving and adaption to changes.
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines.
• Knowledge of computer systems to manage tooling inventory.
