Mechanical Support Technician
Salary: £25,702 to £27,938 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist Allowance of up to £2000 per annum is also available for this role.
Contract Type: Open Ended
Location: Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Harwell, Oxfordshire.

Our ISIS facility is a leading particle accelerator used to carry out research in the physical and life sciences. The facility performs ground-breaking research into the structure and properties of materials at atomic and molecular level, and is the most productive research centre of its type in the world.
As a Mechanical Support Technician in the ISIS Facility, you will be based in the main workshop and work in all areas of the ISIS accelerator and extraction beam lines. Your role will be to assist in the manufacture and installation of components and assemblies required to ensure the accelerator remains working.
Further responsibilities include:
Producing high quality machining work (including turning and milling) to close tolerances.
Support with the build, assembly, modification and installation of new projects connected with the ISIS accelerator.
Initiating the repair and maintenance of a wide range of installed components for a given area of the accelerator.Working within our established team of technicians, you will be collaborating with people with a wide range of specialities. This offers a great opportunity for sharing knowledge and a chance for you to build your experience in other skills areas.
We are looking for someone with:
A recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
Experience as a machinist.
Experience in CNC tooling and programming.
Solid understanding of safety issues and current health and safety legislation. Our Benefits
