Laboris Solutions are working with an R&D driven organisation in the business of designing and developing innovative products, are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their design team.
The client has been serving high-quality products to the Aerospace, Oil & Gas, and various other markets for many years. Due to continued success they are keen to add to their design team. They require an experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to join their Engineering team in the development of innovative world class systems.
The role is responsible for:
- Working closely with engineering staff to produce mechanical designs, including product housing, test equipment and production jigs and fixtures.
- Liaising with the company’s manufacturing & quality teams to see products into full scale production.
- Involvement in design and process improvements, cost reduction, yield and quality assurance.
- Using CAE design tools such as Solidworks to produce engineering information, such as 3D models, assembly drawings and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Applying Geometric Tolerances and dimensions in the production of detailed manufacturing information.
- Using simulation, analysis and hand calculations, in order to verify engineering designs.
- Preparation of technical information in support of procurement activities.
- Contributing to hazard analysis and risk assessment exercises.
- Maintaining and updating engineering drawings and documentations on projects.
- Occasional travel will be required.
The ideal Mechanical Design Engineer will have the following skills / experience:
- Qualified to degree level in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrate equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years’ experience of product development in an industrial setting.
- A strong background in 3D CAD design. Ideally using SolidWorks, but any mainstream 3D CAD package experience is acceptable.
- Electro-mechanical packaging / enclosure design.
- Design calculations from engineering fundamentals. Some exposure to stress analysis (FEA) would be beneficial.
- Experience of materials including stainless steels and engineering plastics.
- Experience of designing products for harsh environments
- ATEX and IECEx would be a distinct advantage.
- Experience of both traditional and modern manufacturing techniques including injection moulding, machining, sheet metal fabrication and rapid prototyping.
- Production engineering including generation of Bills of Materials, routings, assembly instructions and establishing manufacturing/assembly lines.
