Mechanical Engineering Fitter (Machine Builder)

Ability to interpret engineering drawings to be able to assemble components parts of special purpose machinery from scratch in sub-assemblies and overall machine builds

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and fit machinery to assembly drawings
  • Installation of machinery on customer premises adhering to customer specific site requirements and processes
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and productive work area
  • Completing given tasks safely and efficiently
  • Ability to work to deadlines to meet business objectives
  • Interaction with other departments such as design, electrical etc
  • Operation of hand tools and equipment required to assemble machine parts/machines
  • Operation of lifting equipment required to assemble machine parts/machines
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks as required
  • Support business development activity and identify scope changes
  • Proactive identification of near misses to drive down accident rates

Key Skills

  • Competent (and confident) in all technical aspects of mechanical engineering (ideally gained within a similar environment)
  • Experience of working within a multi –skilled environment (i.e. knowledge of but not necessarily an expert in electrical and pneumatic components)
  • Experience of working on projects including working to tight timescales throughout the project life cycle
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of pneumatic / hydraulic systems
  • Working knowledge of Machine Safety
  • Empathy and proactive communication with other functions and projects
  • Good communication skills, confident and capable in client facing role
  • Team-player
  • Willingness to travel worldwide


  • Minimum HNC qualified in relevant mechanical engineering discipline
  • ISOH SPA Passport (Desirable)
