Our client is a very successful and established site maintenance provider for the quarries, aggregates and waste recycling industries and Staffbase have been appointed to recruit for the position of Mechanical Fitter / Fabricator.

The successful applicant will undertake mechanical maintenance and repair work on heavy plant such as conveyors, crushers, vibrating screens and other machinery associated with heavy industry production environments.

The Role:

Reporting to the Operations Manager the successful applicant will be responsible for mechanical maintenance, service and repair of heavy plant and machinery such as conveyors, crushers, vibrating screens and other machinery associated with aggregates and quarry production.

The role will be both field and workshop based and a company van will be provided.

Your general maintenance duties will include but is not limited to the following;

  • Making scheduled checks on machinery and parts including conveyors, crushers, vibrating screens and heavy plant & machinery
  • Oiling and cleaning machinery and parts
  • Carrying out scheduled overhaul and replacing parts that have reached the end of their working life.
  • Responding immediately to machinery breakdowns
  • Fixing faults on site or arranging for replacement equipment to be installed.
  • Welding / cutting / burning and fabrication work


Ideally you will have previous mechanical maintenance, fitting and fabrication experience preferably in heavy industry environments such as recycling, quarries, mining or aggregates sectors.

You will have a sound knowledge and ability to service maintain and repair equipment including but not limited to; heavy plant, crushers, vibrating screens and conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, chain drives, motors, rollers, drums and bearings,

Applicants will also have a good knowledge of maintaining pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
You will have excellent Mig / Stick welding & fabrication skills.

Hours of Work:

Monday to Friday 8am -5pm + OT


Competitive basic salary £14 - £18 per hour
