Our Client has an exciting opportunity to join their busy Manufacturing Plant. This is an immediate role with a Company offering career progression.


The purpose of the role is to take engineering projects (be that new plant, retro-fits to existing plant, resolving/improving plant issues or paper-based feasibility studies) from concept to completion.

As part of the senior management team within the Company, you will use your skills and experience to ensure that the engineering department works safely and effectively. You will develop and implement strategies to enable to company to progress and continuously improve.You will constantly strive to improve QSE standards while at the same time reducing cost and increasing productivity.


·To manage, on a day to day basis, the engineering department

·To control overall CapEx spend in line with individual project budget and overall company budgets.

·To set overall targets for the department in line with business needs and issue these as part of the overall site targets.

·To constantly review work practices to see if health, safety, environmental or quality performance can be improved or costs reduced.

·To perform all process engineering activities required (e.g. design, producing P&ID’s).

·To ensure that all new plant and equipment (including modification to existing plant) is designed to meet customer requirements (either internal or external) in a cost effective and efficient manner with due regard to current and future safety and legislative requirements.

·To take responsibility for “best value” plant procurement and contractor selection.

·To manage and control construction activities on site, including contractor selection/control, permits, monitoring etc.

·To ensure all works are carried out in compliance with the department’s procedures and within the framework of the Company’s Health and Safety Policy.

·To help with the training of plant operators during commissioning and pre-production hand-over phases.

·To maintain comprehensive engineering records during all phases of a project, including documentation required for production and maintenance e.g. plant operating procedures.

·To give professional advice to the Maintenance Department in order to solve problems and/or recommend improvements.

·To ensure engineering sub-contractors are competent to perform the tasks required of them and to constantly review their performance.

·To manage, on a day to day basis, any Process/Project engineers in the department.This to include setting tasks, monitoring progress, giving advice, appraisals, discipline etc.

·To investigate (or be involved in) investigations into quality incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

·To perform audits / inspections as required (e.g. housekeeping, safety, etc.).


·A team player with the ability to motivate and manage effectively.

·Ability to communicate effectively with personnel of all levels in the organisation.

·Ability to make appropriate decisions based on the information provided.

·Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

·Have the ability to plan out the department’s workload to achieve results in full.

·Be able to control budgets and be financially aware.

·Good computer literacy and competent user of AutoCAD software

·Have experience in working in a top tier COMAH site

·Understanding the use of CMMS and implementing adequate PPM strategies for Safety Critical Equipment and other maintenance duties


·Experience at a managerial / supervisory level.

·Degree qualified in a Chemical / Process Engineering.

·Experience of working within a heavily regulated industry.

·Must be able to display technical knowledge of chemical processes and / or plant.
