Mechanical Design Engineer

Circa £30,000 - £33,000

Permanent contract

The hours of work for this position are 37 hours per week and are Monday - Thursday 8am - 4.30pm and Friday 8am - 1pm.

We are proud to be working alongside a Sheffield based Engineering company in assisting them to recruit for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on a full time permanent basis.

You would be working as part of a small mechanical design team who are responsible for managing designs from initial NPI through to completion. You will collate, manage and distribute technical details / information to various internal and external departments with the business. General parts of the role include the following:

  • Produce BOM's for costing and production planning purposes

  • Design solutions in response to sales requests

  • Designing of sheet metal, fabrications assemblies and machined components

  • Creating drawing packs and technical documentation

  • Attend and conduct production meetings to discuss new products

  • Issue and update engineering change notice requests and ensure drawing records are maintained

To apply for this position you must be able to demonstrate

  • Experience of following a job from initial conception through design, cost, sample, BOM creation, packing and lunch

  • Degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering or industry experience

  • Proven work experience as a mechanical engineer in the automotive, aerospace, mechanical handling sectors advantages.

  • Engineering background with experience in the design of automotive products and associated tooling preferable but not essential.

  • Engineering understanding of machining, assembly & fabrication processes.

  • Must be experienced and proficient in the use of Autocad and Autodesk Inventor 3d modelling software package.
