An exciting role has become available for an Maintenance Engineer to work for a leading food manufacturer based near Heathrow, Slough, Berkshire.

Working 5 days on 2 days off on rotating shifts - 5am to 2.30pm/ 2pm to 10pm

The successful candidate must have an eye for spotting faults and finding effective solutions. They must be able to work independently and possess strong mechanical and electrical skills. This is an excellent opportunity to build on your engineering skills in a food manufacturing site. We have a diverse and multi-cultural workforce and require your contribution to build business performance.

The ideal candidate should have an electrical bias in previous roles and have knowledge in wiring diagrams; Invertors; Programming and electrical fault finding.PLC experience from working in a bakery / food manufacturing site is essential.


Key Responsibilities

To establish the cause of electrical and mechanical breakdowns and to identify and implement the best solution.

Diagnose any electrical or mechanical faults in equipment and carry out any necessary day to day repairs.

Routine maintenance of production equipment and machinery.

To support the introduction of new equipment and machinery.

To ensure correct Health & Safety, Food Safety and Hygiene standards are adhered to at all times

To ensure effective communication between and within departments and shifts to maintain production capacity and engineering efficiency.

To ensure that all administration and documentation is completed at the end of every shift.

To ensure a fast response to any issue particularly under breakdown conditions

Minimise engineering downtime

Organising routine servicing schedules

Checking and calibrating instruments to make sure they are accurate.

Fitting new parts.

Carrying out quality inspections

Keeping Operational Managers informed on progress of repairs

To actively participate in a continuous improvement culture throughout the site, constantly identifying opportunities to improve efficiencies and reduce waste

To ensure that planned maintenance work is completed to strict schedules and constantly look for improvements that will ensure reliability of equipment is improved

Effectively liaise with contractors or other external parties

To assist with the implementation of manufacturing improvement techniques (Lean Manufacturing)

To work with key support departments (Production, Hygiene, QA, Stores, Despatch H&S, HR) to maximise performance of the engineering department

To carry out other duties as considered necessary

Continuous development of knowledge and familiarity with the engineering requirements of the bakery process systems and machinery

Positive and solution orientated contribution to meetings

Ad hoc projects as identified by your line Manager and as required by the business.

Required Skills & Experience

A minimum of 3 years engineering experience of operating in all aspects of a food manufacturing site or similar

Good mechanical and electrical skills

An understanding of engineering drawings and principles

Proactive / innovative approach to work

High level of attention to detail

A driven and determined approach

Confident communication skills at all levels

Self motivator
