Our client is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of glass and glazing systems in three business areas: Architectural; Automotive; and Technical Glass.

Do you want to develop your career within a dynamic team of engineers and scientists, working on product and process solutions of the future in the architectural and automotive industry?

If so, they currently have a vacancy for an Assistant Design Engineer (Mechanical) within the R&D Engineering team to carry out design work for new products, develop improved processes, inspection systems and glass handling equipment to meet the demanding requirements of the glass industry.  There are significant, innovative challenges, both to solve known problems and to identify new opportunities, in a fast-moving, customer-oriented, and technological environment.

The successful applicant will work under the supervision of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with colleagues from various functions in multi-disciplinary project teams.  A consummate attitude to Health and Safety in both design and behavioural practices is required.

The successful candidate will have extensive and proven experience in carrying out mechanical design work, particularly related to machinery and industrial equipment.  We are looking for a resilient and self-motivated individual, with substantial experience of 2D and 3D drawing packages, ideally AutoDesk Inventor, and a thorough knowledge of design principles.

The development of successful products and engineering solutions involves collaborative working with colleagues across the organisation and an ability to turn theoretical ideas and concepts into practical and reliable applications that assure customer satisfaction.  Experience of document management systems and good use of Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) would be an advantage.

Essentially, they want candidates to be passionate about finding engineering solutions to problems, and to be up for learning new things every day.  A full UK driving licence and car ownership would be an advantage due to limited public transport to the site.
