I am recruiting for an Assistant Geotechnical Engineer based in Warrington.

The current client portfolio includes the Highways Agency, Transport for London, Local Authorities, the Environment Agency, Canal & Rivers Trust, Water Companies, Network Rail and selected Civil Engineering Contractors for whom the client undertakes the planning, design and supervision of geotechnical engineering solutions for an a raft of schemes including, managed motorways, harbours, ports, water treatment plants, reservoirs, rail electrification, station upgrades and structures across a wide range of geological conditions

Main Purpose of the Job:

We are now looking to recruit an Assistant Geotechnical Engineer who has some well-rounded geotechnical experience (some design experience is preferable), to join a growing Geosciences business based in Warrington, working on a wide portfolio of schemes throughout the UK. To be considered for a role we are seeking candidates with the following credentials:

Key Responsibilities/ Duties:

Reporting to the Principal Engineer Team Leader, you will be accountable for managing components of projects, working in collaboration with other design disciplines and providing technical inputs to projects. The role will involve building relationships with clients on projects, gaining experience in commercial aspects of projects together with developing your own skills, and those of the team, to ensure you all reach your full potential.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Developing skills and knowledge base in both the technical and management streams.
Assisting with the preparation of documentation relating to projects.
Preparing geotechnical calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other project documentation as required in line with company and client requirements as well as national standards and codes of practice.
Good written communication skills and ability to prepare technical reports with guidance.
Participating in the resolution of technical issues.
Ensuring compliance in the components of the project for which you have responsibility, including drawings, reports, specifications and studies.Becoming familiar with, and compliant with, relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team.
Building relationships with Clients on projects.
Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your line manager


Person Specification/ Qualifications:

Minimum Academic Qualifications:
MEng in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical bias,
MSc/MEng in Geotechnical Engineering, or
MSc in Engineering Geology
Desirable Academic Qualifications:
Currently progressing towards becoming a Chartered Engineer in a relevant field
Experience in the civil engineering industry
Fully familiar with MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Very good numerical skills using hand calculations and industry software such as VDISP/PDISP, WALLAP, REPUTE or Slope/W.
Interest in gaining / improving experience and skills in both technical and commercial areas
Good spoken and written English, including report writing skills
Interest in gaining / improving experience and skills in both technical and commercial areas
Ability to work within a team environment
Problem solver i.e. “Can –do” attitude
Flexible to travel in UK and working away from base office
Confident and outgoing individual with excellent communication and motivation skills
Some experience in ground investigation design and implementation.
Full and valid driving licence
