Job Purpose

To be an integral part of the team dedicated to developing first class engineering software products for the design and analysis of electric machines and electrified powertrains to the global industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop first class engineering software products

• Development and implementation of high-fidelity mathematical analysis methods in C# code with a particular focus on electric machines. ( C# can be taught/develop skills once in post)

• Ongoing development and maintenance of the quality of our software products

• The opportunity to get involved in research style projects and publication of related papers

• The opportunity to get involved in engineering services projects

• Keep up to date and compliant with all relevant legislation and Company policies and procedures, with particular attention to the requirements of 'Information Security’ and 'Quality’ practices Other Responsibilities

Skills & Experience Essential:

• PhD in electrical engineering or Meng 2:1/1st with relevant experience.

• Knowledge of electric machines, preferably within the automotive industry

• Strong research skills with the ability to research a technical topic to a deep level with minimum supervision

• Good communication and personal skills

• Problem solving skills

Job Description Desirable:

• Experience using one or more of the existing commercial electric machine analysis software tools for example ANSYS MotorCAD, ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, Altair Flux, MagNet…

• Strong theoretical knowledge of the analysis of electric machines for electromagnetics and/or thermal

• Knowledge of the mechanical and controls aspects of electric machines

• Knowledge of the analysis fidelity options for electric machines and their advantages, disadvantages, and limitations, for example 2D vs 3D analysis

• Knowledge of mechanical and electric powertrains and their components

Design experience for electric machines

• Testing experience for electric machines

• Knowledge and understanding of finite element solvers

• Multi Body Dynamics Simulation

• Numerical analysis

• Optimisation
