A varied and busy design role has come available with a growing SME in the North East!

This role is a Senior Highways Design Engineer position that requires you to be competent in the use of both Civil 3D and MicroDrainage. You will be able to get involved in both Public Realm major projects and large private development projects. Recent schemes include the A66 Cargo Fleet Roundabout, Stainsby Grange Housing Growth where this consultancy was involved in the highways and drainage design which included a 2km link road.

You will be required to work relatively autonomously but you will still receive the unrivalled support that an SME can offer, working side by side with all members of the team from Directors to Apprentices. They also offer full support in your pursuit of Chartership with the ICE.

Senior Highways Engineer Responsibilities

  • Working on challenging projects, you will have experience of several aspects of preliminary and detailed design of public highways including geometry, drainage, pavements and other elements of highway schemes.
  • You will have a keen interest in developing your understanding and ability in civil engineering design and a willingness to research and take on new challenges.
  • To be able to work independently and use your engineering judgement to tackle day to day problems, while keeping project managers informed of your progress.
  • You will understand the multi-disciplinary nature of complex projects from planning stage, through to completion and a willingness to understand more about other disciplines roles on projects.
  • You will understand the importance of working with different types of client in a complex industry - our clients include developers, local authorities and contractors, all of whom have different expectations and requirements from you and the projects you will work on.

Senior Highways Engineer Experience Required.

  • An ability to use design software packages Civil 3D and MicroDrainage and a bonus would be InfraDrainage
  • A good understanding of highway design
  • A willingness to delegate design responsibility to others and act in a mentoring role to less experienced staff
  • Willingness to develop an outward facing capacity as a design team representative in dealings with clients on Technical Matters
  • Good communicator, both written and oral, with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different circumstances.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels both internally and externally.
  • A 'self-starter' with drive, positivity and enthusiasm and a strong desire to succeed.
