Contek Recruitment are currently working exclusively with an Engineering client, based in North Yorkshire, who are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join the team, as they begin a restructuring of the business.

PROFILE

Our client is a privately-owned business based in North Yorkshire. Our client are a versatile, forward-thinking company that specialise in a range of services, including tooling refurbishment, manufacture of new tooling, tooling maintenance, tooling design, and precision engineering.

Our client were founded in 1979 and has grown over the years to establish themselves as a household name within the tooling industry across the UK. They have gone on to build an extensive customer base and now have customers located in over 15 countries across Europe. Some of their most reputable customers include Rolls Royce, Cummins Engines, Ford, JCB, The Royal Mint, and many more.

JOB ROLE: Operations Manager
JOB TYPE: Permanent

WORKING HOURS: 40/45 hours per week – Monday to Friday
SALARY/PAY: £45k-£60k per year (Dependent on skillset, experience, and knowledge)

REPORTING TO: Operations Director

ROLE SCOPE & PURPOSE:

The Operations Manager would be responsible for full site operations, including manufacturing & production, service & maintenance, quality, subcontracting, supply chain, facilities, and remanufacturing. On the whole, the Operations Manager will be responsible for approximately 24 permanent members of staff.

The primary purpose of the role is to take responsibility for all internally facing operations such that customer commitments are met according to the standards of ‘right first time’ and minimum cost product. As such, the Operations Manager is a member of the Management Team, which is responsible for leading the strategic direction of the company as it grows to accommodate key customer requirements, and for collectively resolving companywide issues.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Production & Manufacturing

  • Ensure that the company has enough resource to balance supply and demand, in terms of machining capacity and personnel.
  • Investigate the latest technology in terms machining, tooling and work holding, and how it can potentially be used to drive improvements in productivity, efficiency, capability, and cost down.
  • Effectively schedule the factory to achieve 95% OTDIF.

Facilities, Service & Maintenance

  • Review facility layout to ensure an efficient workflow, and one that makes the most of the available floor space.
  • Make recommendations regarding facility expansion when insufficient floor space has been identified as a constraint.
  • Ensure that a planned preventative maintenance programme is in operation for machinery across the facility.
  • Ensure that machining maintenance regimes are defined and adhered to.
  • Ensure that any essential building maintenance is carried out in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ensure that the building is kept clean and tidy.

Quality

  • Work closely with the Managing Director and the Operations Director in finding the root causes of quality escapes, and in determining robust corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ensure compliance with the ISO9001 quality management system and be a key member of any external compliance audits.
  • Take control and responsibility across the business apply a zero accident and risk mentaility.
     

Supply Chain & Logistics

  • Leading supply chain improvement initiatives to reduce costs and enhance efficiency.
  • Developing action plans to increase profitability through supply chain optimisation.
  • Negotiating terms, discounts, rebates, and other contractual agreements with suppliers.
  • Developing and maintaining supplier performance metrics, reporting, and taking necessary actions for underperforming suppliers.


PERSON REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience within Management roles, within a manufacturing/machining environment.
  • A background within technical machining and engineering.
  • Ideally educated to a degree level within an engineering discipline.
  • Strong quality management skills, along with a systematic approach to running a manufacturing operation, including knowledge and implementation of ISO 9001, HSE, and process control.
  • A systematic approach to preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • A competent leader in factory scheduling, OTDIF, and MPS compliance.
  • An excellent leader and motivator of shop floor engineers.
  • A charismatic approach to engagement with customers and suppliers.
  • A hands-on approach to the position.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to manage a variety of time-critical events in a positive and productive manner.
  • The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines and targets in a productive manner.


PRIMARY PROJECTS

  • To oversee and manage the integration of the company site in North Yorkshire, as they condense their three current facilities into one larger site over the next 10 months.
  • To be involved in the restructure of the business and have a strong input in expanding the current team.
