The opportunity

Location | Warrington / Leicester / Westlakes / Bristol (Hybrid)

A role for a senior shielding consultant to join a company at the forefront of the nuclear industry.
As a Senior Shielding Consultant you  will assume a technical lead role within engineering projects, where you will be performing shielding modelling and delivering associated calculations and reports to clients across nuclear, civils and defence.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

• Work within multi-disciplinary teams, where you will integrate yourself and ensure that consistent approaches are adopted, and timely support provided to all relevant project stakeholders.
• Authoring of shielding reports and related calculation notes, and verification of others’ work.
• Supervising the work of junior technical specialists within the same discipline.
• Managing delivery of tasks undertaken within their agreed Delegation of Authority (DOA) against cost and programme to the satisfaction of Key Stakeholders.
• Ensuring effective management of the customer, including liaison and relationship development with existing and new customers, to aid the development of business, resolution of technical and delivery issues such that the customer is fully briefed and informed of progress.
• You will have the following qualifications & experience

Essential experience 

• Excellent working knowledge of radiation transport codes, particularly Monte Carlo codes MCBEND and/or MCNP.
• Experience working on major projects in a shielding technical lead role.

Desirable experience

• Working knowledge of the SCALE suite of codes (particularly for fuel inventory and neutron activation analysis).
• Experience working with Point Kernel codes (RANKERN and/or Microshield).
• Degree in a relevant scientific or engineering technical discipline.
