JOB TITLE: Design Engineer

RESPONSIBLE TO: Engineering Manager

Skills/Qualifications:

- BEng in Mechanical Engineering or similar subject

- Previous experience as a Design Engineer or a similar role

- Proven experience using CAD software; knowledge of SolidWorks is a plus Ability to present in front of stakeholders, managers and customers Great computational and spatial ability

- Excellent oral and written communication

Job Purpose:

Design Engineering roles assume design authority in developing mechanical and hydro-mechanical products and systems.

Job Duties:

  • Design and checking sign-off authority for company standard and special products.
  • Regular checking of other engineers’ work.
  • Product ‘champion’ for individual product ranges.
  • Seeks to critically analyse and improve design methods and techniques, internal procedures, and existing product lines.
  • Seek to add and develop new products and solutions to the company portfolio
  • Regularly assist in commercial and aftersales duties including training, customer meetings and representing the company in various capacities.
  • Carry out feasibility studies, application checks, reviews and calculations for project solutions in accordance with the design manual.
  • Assume responsibility for incoming enquiries and provide quotations and manage associated costs.
  • Interface with our customers/distributors and suppliers on a regular basis to meet project objectives.
  • Resolve technical issues with customers where required (occasional travel/site visits may be required).
  • Define, oversee and improve part numbers /BOM systems.
  • Coordinate with production & assembly/test areas to manage paperwork requirements.
  • Undertake product change requests in accordance with the engineering change system.
  • Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods; testing properties.
  • Develop mechanical and hydro-mechanical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and system capabilities; confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Provide engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Maintain system and product data base by entering data.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
