Mechanical Design Manager
Location: Bolton, United Kingdom
Athena Recruitment are seeking a dedicated and experienced Mechanical Design Manager to join our client. The successful candidate will demonstrate a practical, hands-on approach and a proven track record of working in the mechanical and industrial engineering industries. With strong leadership skills and proficiency in various CAD programs, the Mechanical Design Manager will oversee a team of 8–12 Mechanical Design Engineers in the development of complex machinery. This role requires excellent project management abilities, a focus on achieving tangible results, and a commitment to fostering cross-team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and motivate a team of 8-12 Mechanical Design Engineers in the development of complex machinery.
- Manage and deliver strategic projects with forecasted revenue of £20m within 12 months, ensuring adherence to project schedule, cost, design, and delivery requirements.
- Introduce and implement Project Management methodologies and System Engineering tools to improve efficiency, traceability, and productivity.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to validate project requirements, meet deadlines, ensure cost-effectiveness, and adhere to relevant standards.
- Monitor staff performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to optimise team delivery for enhanced financial success.
- Oversee employee recognition programs to encourage professional development and high performance.
- Employ outstanding communication skills to establish strong relationships and provide exceptional customer care.
- Maintain membership in the Institute of Engineering and Technology to stay abreast of industry developments and best practices.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Extensive experience (4+ years) in mechanical and industrial engineering roles, with a focus on leading design teams and managing complex projects.
- Proficiency in various CAD programs, with the ability to work on large complex assemblies.
- Strong project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and team-building skills.
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement and innovation within a team environment.
