Mechanical Engineer (Permanent)

V-Recruit are currently working with one of their key Public Sector clients to recruit an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Mechanical Engineer in the Rotherham, South Yorkshire area, to start as soon as possible.

We are seeking an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer to work under the direction of the Principal Quantity Surveyor/Framework Designer and Principal Mechanical Engineer on the design and management of a wide variety of construction related projects, together with the provision of technical inspections and advice to key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Undertake the design and support in the management of designated mechanical engineering projects, including mechanical design, calculations and the like to comply with all current legislation and guidance from scheme inception to the issue of the final certificate and management and control of project budgets.

  1. To provide advice and make recommendations on mechanical design matters to colleagues and clients, including reporting and attendance at officer meetings and committees as required by the role.

  1. Carry out inspections, mechanical surveys, assessments and design & advice on mechanical repair and maintenance work.

4.  To aid the Principal Quantity Surveyor and Principal Principal Mechanical Engineer  in the delivery of work & assist in staff training and development in all aspects of the groups function and responsibilities.

5. To contribute to the management of the group and to deputise for the Principal Quantity Surveyor and Principal Principal Mechanical Engineer as necessary. To undertake other duties and responsibilities from time to time commensurate with the grade of the post.

6.  To ensure that the standards required by clients in terms of design, performance and advice are adhered to and to help implement the procurement strategy for construction-related services ensuring financial regulations are strictly observed in the preparation and implementation of all projects.

7. To liaise with consultants, technical staff and all stakeholders as necessary to foster co-operation and provide a properly co-ordinated service to clients.

8. To monitor standard procedures / operational practices and to aid the Principal Quantity Surveyor and Principal Principal Mechanical Engineer in their review and development.

9. To attend emergency situations and meetings out of hours where necessary.

10.To be familiar and comply with all relevant technology, health and safety, operational, financial, personnel, data protection, legislation, contract law and other policies and procedures relevant to the group and the post.

Job Specifics

£36,648 - £39,186 per annum

The above salaries are subject to annual cost of living increases, and annual increments through scale.

You will have access to an attractive and sought-after Local Authority pension

26 days annual leave (plus Bank Holidays), increasing to 29 days after 5 years’ service (an additional day of annual leave is also in review)

Hybrid working available after initial induction period, with just one day per week from the office (more if you prefer). Flexitime is also recognised by this client.

37 hours per week

Candidate Requirements:

  1. Proven experience in Mechanical Engineering including mechanical analysis, design of building services & diagnosis & repair of mechanical defects, legal & statutory regulations associated with the role.
  2. Proven experience in Mechanical Engineering including Experience of working or supervising works to Heating, Hot and Cold water, Mechanical Ventilation, Kitchen Extract, Air Conditioning, and Sustainable technologies.
  3. Knowledge and experience in the production of technical specifications and documentation.
  4. Highly capable of producing technical drawings in AutoCAD.
  5. Experience of undertaking mechanical surveys, and production of associated technical reports.
  6. Working knowledge of the use of Codes of Practice and Building Regulations for the design, refurbishment, and repair of building services installations.
  7. Good understanding & implementation in relation to health & safety, asbestos and CDM Regulations 2015.
  8. Proficiency in use of mechanical software for analysis and design of mechanical services.
  9. Knowledge & experience in Utilising a range of ICT systems and applications.
  10. Several years’ experience in site supervision of mechanical systems and installations.
