Product Engineering Manager Location - Luton



We are seeking a Product Engineering Manager to join a thriving manufacturer and distributor of electrical products. The successful candidate will develop and manage a team of Product / Assistant Product Engineers, ensuring the development of high-quality electrical products and compliance with relevant safety standards and directives.



Day to day of the role:

  • Develop electrical products in liaison with manufacturing partners, establishing product specifications, writing product briefs, determining applicable standards, and assessing samples.
  • Test and/or coordinate the external testing of products in development, investigating any product problems.
  • Establish product and packaging labelling and marking requirements including packaging labels, product instruction leaflets and data sheets.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Team to investigate product problems, report findings and manage product improvements with partner factories.
  • Ensure products comply with relevant safety standards and directives including EMC, REACH and RoHS.
  • Produce and maintain technical literature including product specifications, packaging specifications, instruction leaflets and data sheets.
  • Conduct factory audits and pre-delivery inspections on behalf of the Quality Team from time to time.
  • Maintain up to date technical support files, including WEEE and packaging weight data.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in a managerial role is a must.
  • Educated in an Engineering discipline with an electrical or electronics bias.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, product standards and a quality approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to identify product features and benefits.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical product application and electrical installation, including work practices on building sites would be beneficial.
  • Good understanding of British/European Standards and legislation that relates to the product portfolio.
  • Experience in collaborating with offshore factories remotely.
  • Ideally, knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
