Help us make a difference as a Engineering/Maintenance Supervisor based at our MRF in Edmonton.

The shift is 4 on 4 off - 2 days and 2 nights shift pattern.

London allowance also included in the salary.

The Shift Engineering Supervisor will supervise and lead the shift team of maintenance technicians to effectively and efficiently respond to all operational engineering needs and prioritising the work load to reduce operational downtime. To lead and develop the maintenance team and ensure health and safety requirements are always considered and executed.

The Biffa division you’ll be supporting.

Our recycling facility at Edmonton is one of the UK’s largest materials recycling facilities (MRF). It has the capacity to recycle 250,000 tonnes of waste per year. The site has been fitted out with the most modern technology for the high-quality processing of recyclable materials.

Designed to process both domestic and commercial dry recyclables, materials recycled include paper, cardboard, plastic, metal and glass containers and other materials.

  • Comply fully with all safety instructions, policies and procedure to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and all others present
  • Supervise a shift team of multi-skilled technicians and contractors to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the team and ensure work is carried out to the standard required
  • Support the Engineering Supervisor in the development of other team members skills and abilities
  • Prioritise work on the plant and machinery to meet operational needs and maximise plant uptime
  • Carry out problem solving activities on the plant and machinery to identify faults and rectify them
  • Carry out maintenance, both preventative and breakdown, on all equipment on the site to reduce operational down time
  • Take part in Root Cause Analysis activities (RCA) to identify the cause of failures and actions to prevent future failures increasing plant up time
  • Proactively identify potential faults and improvement opportunities on the plant and equipment to prevent future failures or to identify more efficient methods of work
  • Use the CMMS fully as per the company procedures to promote timely reaction to work requests, build equipment history and promote effective stock control and record material usage
  • Maintain the workplace, tools and engineering facilities to prevent hazard and risks in the workplace and to promote effective engineering practices
  • Communicate shift performance and activities through the shift report and handover process to effectively communicate issues to the management, engineering and production teams
  • Support shift team members in non-core skill maintenance activities to promote personal development.

Requirements

Here's what we require.

  • Able to problem solve and to prioritise work
  • HNC qualified in Mechanical/Plant Engineering
  • Experience of supervising a diverse team
  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics Welding
  • Understanding of electrical/Instrument maintenance and lubrication
  • Highly knowledgeable in mechanical maintenance
  • Computer Literate
  • Have a basic knowledge of Health and Safety Policy & Procedures
