Breakthrough technology is vital for strengthening the UK’s Defence & Homeland Security. As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Awerian, you will be at the forefront of this innovation race by helping to defend and protect the UK from the latest technological and cyber threats.

Every day, you will be operating at the boundary of technological exploration by inventing new solutions and enhancing existing hardware. Typically, this will involve analysis, computational modelling, prototype design, invention, laboratory testing, process development, and manufacturing.

Your work will have a real-world impact. You’ll get to explore pioneering concepts by collaborating with elite multi-disciplinary teams of highly educated and skilled scientists, engineers, and designers. It’s a fantastically challenging, varied and agile role. You’ll see ideas become a reality as you create prototypes through Awerian’s rapid approach to design and implementation. Your problem-solving skills will be enhanced as you tackle complex mechanical engineering challenges for product, instrumentation, and concept development.

 

Using 3D CAD (SolidWorks) you’ll get to create and evolve a wide range of designs which may include products, assembly jigs, test equipment and instrumentation. There will also be opportunities to present proposed solutions through sketches, animations, and renderings as part of the build, testing and troubleshooting process.

Requirements

The projects are cutting-edge and confidential – so you’ll need to be eligible for UK security clearance. You will have a track record of academic excellence, hold a relevant degree, and have proven technical capabilities with notable experience in a number of the following areas:

 

  • Experience with a CAD package, preferably Solidworks, or other packages such as Catia, Creo or AutoCAD
  • Experience in CAD design, manufacturing, design for manufacture, welding and fabrication design
  • Thermal simulation or thermal modeling experience
  • Experience using or basic understanding of PDM (product data manager)
